Saturday was an odd day around here.

DAG and I went grocery shopping around 1:00pm, it was raining. By the time we got out of the store it was snowing like mad.

We got home, unloaded the food and as Gina put it away I put the roof rack on the car. We then all hopped into the car and went to go get our Christmas Tree while it was snowing. We gat a 7' Balsam, which we will put up this week sometime and decorate on Saturday.

My company's Christmas Party was Saturday evening so we headed to the Country Club for that. Sat with the same folks we sit with each year, close to the bar and buffet line! I had several Manhattans and Gina had her usual Sprite and cranberry juice. Ususal food for dinner, started with "pass around" appetizers, pigs in blanket, meatballs, bacon wrapped scallops, sesame chicken, clams casino and spinach in puff pastry, plus a big spread of cheeses, crackers, breads and fruit. The Buffet had a big salad selection, mixed veggies, roasted potatoes, tortellini, chicken in a mushroom sauce, salmon, and Prime Rib.

After the meal there was the usual door prizes (All we won was the centerpiece..a "Longaberger" basket with a bunck of silk poinsettias) and service awards. Our HR director managed to buthcer 4 out of 5 names she called out.

Got out of there fairly early and it finally stopped snowing as we left the country club.

All in all we got about 5" of snow. We usually don't get snow this early. If this is any indication it's going to be a long winter!

Crappy day

Got to work today and there was no power.

The power company said it would be 5:00pm. So we decided to send all of the hourly workers homw for the day. Myself and two of the supervisors had to go around in the dark and get all of the hazardous liquids sealed up as we only had an hour left on the backup batteries for the fire suppression systems.

Around 10:30 the VP of Operations and the Sr. VP had decided to send everyone else home for the day, but they wanted to check with the CEO before telling everyone. On their way to his office the friggin power came on!

So we spent the rest of the day cleaning up the mess created when all of the equipment shut down when the power cut off.

Big suprise at work

So I got called down to the HR office this afternoon.

This weekend is our office Christmas party. At the party they recognize folks who reach anniversaries of their employment in 5 year increments.

I worked for the company for 9 years, quit, worked elsewhere for 3 1/2 years then returned.

It seems that they changed the way they keep track of the anniversaries. We got a new HR Director last year and she put a new system in place. Now for the few of us who have left and come back they decided to go back to our original start date for purposes of these "Service Awards".

So, they were going through the records to get ready for the party this Saturday. They found out that next year I will be in the "20 Year" group BUT under the old system I did not yet receive a 15 year award.

So When I went to HR today they explained this change in policy and handed me an envelope with $500.00 cash for the 15 year award I missed!

WOOT! Free money!
